UT Social Work’s Fall 2025 Distinguished Speaker on Veterans Day
Thank you to everyone who joined us on Veterans Day for UT Social Work’s Fall 2025 Distinguished Speaker event. We were honored to welcome Dr. Nathan Keller, Ph.D., LCSW—a retired U.S. Army Colonel, longtime IMVFW collaborator, and Director of the Student Counseling Center at Uniformed Services University—whose distinguished career continues to shape military social work education and practice.
Event Highlights
- Dr. Keller’s lecture traced the history, role, and application of social work within the military, emphasizing how core social work values guide practice in this essential field.
- He discussed resiliency, trauma, combat stress operations, corrections, and education for military social workers, underscoring the vital impact of social work on the well-being of service members, veterans, and their families.
- A thoughtful Q&A with Dr. Elisa Borah, IMVFW Director, followed the presentation, offering deeper insights into training, research, and practice.
“Social work practitioners are essential to supporting our military service members, military families, and, through their work, ensuring the strength of our nation’s defense. Dr. Keller is a long-time advocate for research, training, and education among military social workers, and brings extensive experience that our community can benefit from at UT Social Work.”
— Dr. Elisa Borah
We are grateful to our students, faculty, community partners, veterans, and military families for joining us at Walter Webb Hall on November 11, 2025, to engage in this important conversation and celebrate the impact of military social workers.
