Abby Blankenship, PhD


Abby E. Blankenship, PhD is a Research Assistant Professor at The University of Texas at Austin in the Steve Hicks School of Social Work. Abby received her PhD in clinical psychology at Western Michigan University and completed her predoctoral internship at the Southwest Consortium in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Abby completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in trauma psychology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio with the STRONG STAR Research Consortium at their Fort Hood site in Killeen, Texas.
Abby has specialty training in the treatment of combat related posttraumatic stress disorder and provides expert consultation to community providers newly trained in Cognitive Processing Therapy. Abby has significant experience overseeing large clinical trials designed to prevent or alleviate posttraumatic stress disorder and other deployment related problems. Her research interests include using community based participatory research to improve prevention and intervention for a variety of presenting problems among active duty service members, veterans, and their families.
